NewGen IT was established in August 1996 initially as an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that offered connectivity to the cyberspace. The company was one of the pioneers in the ISP business and offered the fastest Internet connection due to its better bandwidth to subscriber ratio. Because of the popularity of the company’s services among the country’s leading schools, it was widely regarded as the ISP of choice for educational institutions. Among its clients were Xavier School, Poveda, Southridge, Lourdes School of Quezon City, Siena College, Informatics, CAL Computer School and Lyceum.
In October 1998, NewGen IT’s Cable.Net was introduced as the first cable Internet service in the country. In partnership with Home Cable, NewGen IT offered its Cable.Net service that provided Internet connectivity through cable TV connection to various clients including Xavier School and The Office of the Executive Secretary in Malacañan Palace.
NewGen IT was also among the first to offer Internet connectivity prepaid cards for the mass market. Two months after the launch of NewGen’s NetCard Prepaid Internet in year 2000, it was already being distributed in more than 200 dealers including 7-11 stores, SM department stores and the Mega Cellular and Fonkard outlets.
NewGen IT also offered other services such as leased line connectivity and packaged NetCards customized for individual corporate clients. It also offered wireless and VSAT satellite links. Other services offered include web hosting, web development, network management and Internet domain registration.
Business Expansion
Throughout the years, the company gained expertise in all aspects of Internet and network management. With NewGen IT and its partners’ technical expertise in local-area and wide-area networking and Internet-based system integration, the company expanded its service offerings to include systems integration, IT project management, intranet design and implementation, e-mail and groupware collaboration systems, and advanced computer training. The company was transformed into a proficient solutions provider for corporate clients like the Asian Development Bank, the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (now DepEd), and others.
