TruBank was successfully implemented at Bank of India. It protects the retail and corporate customers from sophisticated cyber attacks like Man-In-The-Middle attack (MITM) and prevent online banking fraud due to phishing. This is the only known end-to-end authentication and encryption security solution that ensures that the data submitted by the customer is secured right from the point the customer enters it to the browser till it reaches the banks infrastructure.
TruBank is an end-to-end secure channel with a secure browser and secure desktop, using patented Rel-ID technology. Rel-ID, for Relative Identity, is a path breaking concept in identity and authentication, developed by Uniken Innovation Center. The RMAP protocol based on this concept has been embedded in the TruBank product used for securing the online banking solution.
In 2008, Bank of India started searching for a two factor authentication solution. Depth of coverage for attack vectors, easy usability, and convenience were among the main selection criteria. As part of the process, Bank of India evaluated several solutions and decided on Uniken's TruBank.
The two factor authentication solution uses USB-based hardware and software tokens. Software tokens are allotted to retail customers, while corporate customers are provided with USB-based hardware tokens. As corporate customers' transactions involve very high amounts, the bank wanted to give them more security. Security provided by the hardware device is much higher than software residing on the PC. Out of bank's 3,00,000 online customers, around 2,25,000 are retail customers, whereas 75,000 are corporate customers.
Bank of India has already rolled out the two factor authentication solution to 200 of its customers (consisting of retail and corporate entities). As part of the next phase, the bank plans to cover 1,00,000 customers by April 2010. The remaining customer base will be covered in a phase-wise manner. Bank of India has obtained a license which allows it to use the product for up to five years.
